This key introductory module provides a broad and enjoyable foundation for university-level mathematics, but you do require some prior knowledge. It teaches you the essential ideas and techniques that underpin university-level study in mathematics and mathematical subjects such as physics, engineering and economics. You’ll study a range of fundamental topics – including calculus, Algebra, Functions of variables, Differentiation and Integration – and use mathematical software to solve problems if the need arises. You’ll also develop your skills in communicating results and defining problems.

The purpose of the module is to develop the tools, techniques and methodologies needed to enable you to apply numerical modelling techniques to physical/engineering problems and systems. This will include developing analysis skills to a level suitable to be applied to engineering problems) and developing analytical and numerical techniques applied to engineering problems. This module develops the following graduate attributes: problem solver and lifelong learner.
