On 14 April 2016, the European parliament adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679 EU) (GDPR). The GDPR will come into force on 25 May 2018 throughout the EU and will replace the Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC), which is implemented in the UK through the Data Protection Act 1998. The GDPR will update EU data protection law and remove inconsistencies that have arisen because of the country specific implementation of the Directive.

It is an obligation under the Act that the University provides the relevant training to update all members of staff on what is involved in the Act and their roles and responsibilities. This training is therefore designated by the Vice Chancellor’s office as Mandatory.

This is a short clip that provides advice on the steps to take to keep safe in the event of a firearms or weapons attack which has been released to the public by National Counter Terrorism Policing.

Recent events in the UK and around the world remind us all of the terrorist threat we face, which in the UK is considered as ‘SEVERE’, meaning an attack is highly likely. Police and security agencies are working tirelessly to protect the public  but it is also important that communities remain vigilant and aware of how to protect themselves if the need arises.
