This module is designed to both prepare students for subject-specific employment and develop deeper awareness of key transferable skills acquired throughout the degree to maximize potential for entry into the highly competitive graduate workplace. Employability skills such as: time and self-management, customer awareness, problem solving, literacy and numeracy, as well as creative and innovative approaches are all highlighted by employers as being essential in the workplace and lacking in many graduates. In offering students sector specific opportunities which tailor learning through engagement with employers, business planning activity, professional bodies and live projects, this module places the future of the student at the heart of their experience. This module presents opportunity for students to test out their learning, try out skills, and acquire new experiences and perceptions by making contacts and pursuing work experience opportunities. Students will practice looking for work, assessing their own suitability and meeting the expectations of a potential employer. Acknowledging personal skills and attributes is core to effective self-promotion and tutors will aim to aid the student on a path of self-reflection to identify and benefit from potential opportunity.
