This module will introduce and investigate the function of the photojournalistic industry today. The module will investigate a range of key important questions such as: What is news and who controls it? What type of images are used in news? How are images sourced? Through a series of industry relevant briefs you will develop a blog site and publish assignments as stories set during the module within fixed time constraints. The module is designed to not only give you an introduction to the print and web-based industry for photojournalists but will also allow you to gain key photographic skills. You will be taught fundamental journalistic skills including caption writing, information gathering, and audience awareness. You will also be introduced to key genres, which will include: editorial work, documentary photography, local, national and international news. As it is important to work safely from the start of your course the module will also introduce legal and ethical aspects specific to photojournalism.
