The purpose of this module is to enable you to display your knowledge and understanding of bio medical engineering design systems and processes by applying the principles of what you have learned during the previous year of study to a design project brief. The clients for the design brief will either be staff who are not delivering the module, or actual external clients if appropriate projects are available. You will work on concepts, initial ideas, or product modifications as per client requirements and develop them through to at least the prototype stage. Supervision and guidance will be provided by the course lecturers, however there may be active contributions from actual employers/end users who can join meetings and attend presentations. Feedback will enable you to understand real world engineering challenges such as cost of production, human interface, materials choice, preparing for manufacture, time constraints, and so on. This module will assist you to develop your social, public, and ethical responsibilities. You will enhance your team working, communication and planning skills as you will be working with your peers in groups.
