The aim of this module is to develop your understanding of factors that constrain and contribute to the effective delivery of sport development operations. It is delivered at USN Bolton Arena where you will have opportunities to evaluate theories of operational and strategic management in the context of the facility operations management. It also focuses on the concept of internationalisation through undertaking a comparative analysis of the Manchester Aquatics Centre and Bolton Arena, focussing on facilities with international reach in the events it stages. Students will examine environmental sustainability by exploring the sustainability factors relevant to running a large complex sport venue (e.g. energy consumption); dual use programming mix and the social, public and ethical responsibility by building an understanding of the community context in which the a multi-purpose facility manages its sport, physical activity and active leisure operations.
