In this module, you will consider in some depth the concept of narrative as it applies to games. You will explore the underpinning theory of narrative and storytelling, including key frameworks and structures, using examples from existing games and other media to consolidate your knowledge of their practical applications. In the context of this knowledge, you will examine how games implement some of the concepts studied and how well various approaches work alongside the unique challenges associated with creating narrative for games. You will also compare and contrast the role of narrative in games to that in other media, developing understanding of how these are necessarily different and considering some of the relevant moral and cultural issues which can arise as a result. Using all you have learned, you will create a narrative-based game artefact to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of narrative as it applies to games. The following GAME attributes are developed in this module: Problem Solver, Effective Communicator, Collaborative.
